Recently there has been a major focus around the plastic problem. There has been an increase both locally here in Victoria with the ban on plastic bags and worldwide actions taking place on reducing our plastic waste. Plastic is literally everywhere there have been reports that “by 2050 there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish (Hornak, L)”. Source
One of the things that are really easy and important to change is your toothbrush. Plastic toothbrushes require a ridiculous amount of plastic by the time they are sold. Not only is it the bush itself that's made of plastic, but the packaging it comes is too. Switching to a more eco-friendly option is a great start to keeping the plastic levels in the ocean lower than the level fish.
It is recommended that you switch out your toothbrush every 2-3 months. Now, with a bamboo toothbrush, we have a couple of options. We can either dispose of our old brushes in the recycling or compost, or we can take it a step further and repurpose them.
Those little bristles make excellent cleaners! The small bristles make scrubbing smaller details wayyyy easier.
Here Are 5 Things You Can Do To With An Old Bamboo Toothbrush:
1) Clean Grout Grime Off Tiles
Baking soda and warm water are a great combo for getting out bathroom grime. A sponge or a scrubby doesn't always do the trick. Luckily the bristles are just small enough to get all those tough spots. Use your old toothbrush with baking soda and water on the brush and scrub away till the grime is gone.
2) Clean Your Keyboard
Keyboards are the worst for collecting dirt and dust. With a dry toothbrush, you can remove any little bit of dust, crumbs and finger stains. You can get your keyboard looking as good as when you got it.
3) Clean Your Shoes
Get your shoes looking brand new with a toothbrush, apply some warm water to the brush and buff away any scuff marks, get underneath too. When dirt and mud get stuck in the soles of your shoes, loosen it up with your toothbrush.
4) Add It To Your Kids Art Supplies
Toothbrushes are fantastic art tools, whether it's with clay, playdough or paints, toothbrushes can help add texture or even cute patterns to their art project.
5) Getting Spots Out Of Clothes Or Carpets
The small head of the toothbrush makes it especially useful for tiny messes. Use your favorite cleaner and scrub small circles to get stains out of clothes or carpets. No need to rent a wet vacuum or wash the whole garment.
